Lagos in Focus Design Contest: Everything you need to know

We have got good news! As part of our initiative to amplify the voice and creativity of local artists, we partnered with Lagos Meet to launch the Lagos in Focus Design Contest.

This contest is an exciting opportunity for photographers, illustrators, type designers, digital artists, graphic designers, and visual design specialists to interpret Lagos creatively and stand a chance to win cash prizes.

What is the Lagos in Focus Design Contest About?

Lagos, Nigeria, is an oasis of moments, experiences, and stories. These experiences might seem like an ordinary part of the everyday Lagos conundrum. However, we believe these experiences hold something special and unique that deserves to be immortalised in a frame.

The challenge is for participants to take these everyday experiences and look at them from a fresh perspective, transforming them into something extraordinary, elevated and special.

Participants can choose any medium – photography, illustration, type design, digital art, graphic design, or visual design – to express their unique perspectives on Lagos.

What is the Purpose of the Lagos in Focus Design Contest?

The Lagos in Focus Design Contest was conceived in 2023 by individuals passionate about African creativity. We seek to redefine the creative landscape of Lagos by providing a platform for individuals to express themselves freely through various art mediums.

Our vision is simple yet profound: every artist participating in the contest should gain something meaningful from the experience, whether it's a substantial cash reward, increased recognition, or a clearer sense of creative direction.

What Prizes Will the Winners Take Home?

Three winners will be selected at the end of the contest and awarded cash prizes. The winners will be selected strictly based on skill and creativity in their interpretation of Lagos.

Each winner will get their artwork framed by Framegidi and some cash reward via bank transfer.
1st Prize: Framed Artwork - 24 x 36 [A1] (inches) + Cash Prize of 100,000 NGN
2nd Prize: Framed Artwork - 18 x 24 (inches) + Cash Prize of 50,000 NGN
3rd Prize: Framed Artwork - 18 x 24 (inches) + Cash Prize of 50,000 NGN

Who’s Eligible to Participate in the Contest?

The Lagos in Focus Design Contest is open to photographers, illustrators, type designers, digital artists, graphic designers, and visual design specialists. Whether you're a seasoned professional or an emerging talent, this contest is for you!

How Do I Participate in the Contest?

To participate in the contest, share your artwork/design on Instagram using the hashtag #LagosinFocus on or before February 10, 2024. In the caption, let us know your inspiration behind the artwork/design and your creative process. Follow updates online to stay informed.

How Many Entries Can I Send In?

To give everyone a fair chance, we will allow only one entry per person.

When Does the Contest Open and Close?

The contest will open on January 19, 2024, and close on February 10, 2024. Mark your calendars because we will only consider entries sent during this period.

How Will the Contest Be Judged?

A panel of distinguished experts from the Framegidi and Lagos Meet Community, will carefully evaluate each submission to ensure a fair and thorough selection process. The entries will be judged based on creativity, originality, relevance to theme, aesthetic appeal and overall impact.

When and Where will the Winners be Announced?

The winners will be announced on February 16 through Framegidi and Lagos Meet's official social media accounts.
